Dual-camera Lenovo K8 Note launched in India, priced at Rs 12,999

This device has first stock Android (7.1.1), 13MP selfie camera, 5MP sensor with flash

Chinese smartphone maker Lenovo on Wednesday launched the much-awaited ' Lenovo K8 Note ' in India at Rs 12,999 (3GB RAM and 32GB storage version) that comes with a dual-camera setup (13MP+5MP sensor with flash).

The 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM variant will cost Rs 13,999. The device with first stock Android (7.1.1) has 13MP selfie camera that supports professional mode and flash (full-light LED flash) as well.

Lenovo 'K8 Note' will retail in venom black and fine gold colours on Amazon India, starting August 18.

"This is the first global launch of a Lenovo product in India. 'K8 Note' comes packed with everything that our consumers would expect from a smartphone today - an eye-catching design, dual cameras, 10-core processor, great sound and, of course, the 'TheaterMax' technology that is the hallmark of the Note series," Sudhin Mathur, Country Head, Lenovo Mobile Business Group, India, told reporters here.

'TheaterMax' allows users to view the content on your phone on a much larger virtual screen once they put on a VR headset and 'Dolby Atmos' ensures high-quality sound.

The dual camera set-up has a 13MP primary and 5MP depth sensor for better pictures and enhanced depth of field.

Reacting to rumours that the company was superstitious and didn't launch the 'K7' series, Anuj Sharma, Head of Product Marketing (Smartphones) at Lenovo, said: "There was a K7 Note but that wasn't killer enough. We skipped a generation, took a leap and made 'K8 Note'". Read more

OnePlus 5 launch imminent; company halts 'flagship' OnePlus 3T production

OnePlus has announced that its latest flagship OnePlus 3T, will soon be discontinued. The production of OnePlus 3T has already reached the end of its production life, and sale of the devices will continue till the stock lasts.

The latest development comes days after the company’s CEO revealed that the next flagship smartphone OnePlus 5 will be launched soon and will feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor.

Recently, the China-based smartphone manufacturer OnePlus teamed up with DxO, a software company with expertise in image processing software, to enhance the photography capabilities of the upcoming OnePlus 5 smartphone.

In a blog post on the OnePlus official forum, the company said: "We are happy to announce that we have teamed up with DxO to enhance your photography experience with our upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 5. DxO is perhaps most well-known for creating the defining photography benchmark, the DxOMark. They’ve got years of imaging experience and expertise, both for professional cameras and for smartphones."

LG K10: Camera saves the day

If you are in love with selfies, then LG K10 should save you from all the hassles for a picture perfect one. The company's first ever "Made in India" smartphone, available for Rs 13,750, is an interesting launch by the South Korean giant. LG is vying to gain a foothold in a heavily competitive market dominated by the likes of Lenovo, Samsung, Motorola and Xiaomi.

However, the latest launch does not look very attractive as the specifications it offers are not on a par with the hole it burns in your pocket. The dual-sim phone comes with built-in memory of 16 GB (with an option to expand it to 32 GB) coupled with a not so effective 2GB of RAM. The K10's competitors, namely the

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, LeEco Le 1s, Lenovo Vibe K4 Note, and the Motorola Moto G Turbo Edition are going to make it difficult for LG to capture a pie of the fiercely contested market share.

The Lenovo Vibe K4 Note offers better specifications than the K10. The K4 Note runs on an octa-core Mediatek MT6753 processor, whereas the K10 boasts of a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor. The K4 Note is backed by a bigger 3,300mAh battery as compared to the 2,300mAh one that features in the K10. And to top it all, Lenovo's model is priced at Rs 11,999.

LG has kept the graphical user interface of the phone very basic yet informative. The contemporary pebble look laced with a 2.4D arc glass adds an overall style statement to the phone. The standout feature of the phone, however, is the camera and the features that come along with it. It has an interesting fist recognition ability that helps click selfies when you place your fist in front of the camera. It also comes with a front camera flash that enhances the quality of the pictures clicked. The battery backup is quite decent and does not give any trouble while charging either.

But, can brilliant camera add-ons save the day for LG which is trying to compete with the big boys of the smartphone arena? Can LG's new offering carve out a niche for itself in such a crowded space? The answer is for you to find out; go ahead and lay your hands on it.
